Marie France L’Ecuyer

Country of origin / Canada

MISSION: EXPERIENCE THE TERRITORY MORE FULLY AND HIGHLIGHT ADVENTURE AS AN INFINITE SPACE OF FREEDOM, ENCOUNTER, AND DISCOVERY.

LONG HIKING / ADVENTURE BIKE / OCEANIC SAILING

Trained at the Banff Center in adventure filmmaking (2022), at L’inis in documentary filmmaking (2021) and at Collège Marsan in photography (2018), Marie France L’Ecuyer is an emerging visual artist and director who is particularly interested in the relationship between humans and their environment. Challenged by the beauty of wide open spaces of untamed nature, she questions our relationship to the territory and explores the inner dimension of adventure. Her artistic approach is overtaken by her experience in social research, her expeditions between sea and mountains, and her privileged encounters with nature and those who dare to discover it.

Rewarded many times, her photographic work has been the subject of solo and collective exhibitions in Canada and internationally. After her first short film, Territoire interieur (2021), presented in the official selection of several international film festivals, she directed the documentary web series La Virée du Saint-Laurent (2022). She is currently working on the production of the multimedia documentary Uapishka: Rencontre en territoire innu (Projet Uapishka) and the medium-length film Marche au pays réel (Expédition Transboréale), which has been shot in winter 2023, and she is preparing for the 10th edition of the Transat Quebec-Saint-Malo in 2024.

An outdoor enthusiast for several years, Marie France has worn her boots over a few thousand kilometers worldwide in search of striking landscapes to capture and inspiring stories to tell. Co-author of the books They have conquered the world in solo (Éditions de l’Homme) and Hiking by bike – 50 dream routes around the world (Ulysse), she collaborates with the magazine Géo Plein Air to share her adventure stories with other enthusiasts in search of sense, surpassing and immensity.

“As long as we can’t bear the terrifying silence of infinite space, we will fill this planet with noise and fury.”
